Draw made for Powerade Leinster Schools Senior Rugby Cup Competition

The draw for the Powerade Leinster Schools Rugby Senior, Junior and Development Cup competitions took place in the Aviva Stadium, Dublin.

2012 will see the 126th Senior Schools Cup final taking place over St. Patrick’s weekend in the RDS. The first Senior Cup final took place in Lansdowne Road in 1887, with Blackrock triumphing over Farra School, 3-0.  Clongowes Wood College are the current champions, defeating Cistercian College Roscrea in last year’s final.

Leinster Rugby players Jamie Heaslip, Eoin O’Malley and Fergus McFadden were also in attendance at the Aviva Stadium, reliving their schools rugby memories in conversations with Brent Pope.

Commenting at the launch, Chief Executive of Leinster Rugby Mick Dawson said: “Over the course of the last 126 years, the Leinster Schools competitions have played an integral role in the cultivation of home-grown talent across the province. We’re delighted to have the backing once again of Powerade, whose ongoing commitment to the game of rugby, and indeed sport in Ireland, is unrivalled. To the Schools Committee and administrators, games-masters, match officials, ground-staff, coaches, players and media, I would like to thank you for all your efforts in ensuring the ongoing success of the schools game in the province.”

Also speaking at the launch, John Coffey, Sponsorship Manager with Powerade said:

"We’re delighted to continue our title sponsorship of the Powerade Leinster Schools Junior and Senior Cup competitions. Ireland and Leinster’s considerable achievements in recent years are due in no small part to the strength of the provincial schools rugby competitions. We’re looking forward to another exciting season of schools rugby, and would like to wish the best of luck to all of the competing schools in this year’s competitions”.

The draws for the Powerade Leinster Schools Junior Cup, Vinnie Murray Cup and Fr. Godrey Cup competitions also took place; full draws are available from www.leinsterrugby.ie
